Peoria city attorney receives 15% raise

Posted

Peoria City Council recently completed their appraisal of City Attorney Emily Jurmu, and approved amendments to her contract that provides for an increase in base salary and deferred compensation that, city staff says, will more closely align her with peer counterparts in the Valley.

The city now agrees to pay her an annual base salary of $259,250. She was previously making $225,000, for a 15% raise.

The city agrees to pay her 7% of base salary per year in deferred compensation, to be paid to the city's mandatory 401(a) plan, according to the contract.

The city also agrees to pay $20,750 into Peoria's Section 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, which is part of the city's retirement benefit program, in even installments each pay period, according to the contract. Jurmu may elect to contribute additional amounts into the plan.

Jurmu, a lawyer in the city attorney’s office, stepped in as acting attorney after former City Attorney Vanessa Hickman stepped down in January 2023. Jermu became the official city attorney of Peoria in March 2023.
