On Saturday, July 19, 2025, Congresswoman Yasmin Ansari, D-Ariz., was refused entry to the Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Eloy.
By law, any U.S. representative is allowed to make an unannounced visit to exercise their Constitutional oversight responsibility at any ICE detention facility.
A few days later, another sitting U.S. representative was blocked from visiting the same detention facility in Eloy. This time it was Democratic Arizona Congressman Greg Stanton’s turn to face the illegal obstruction thrown into the mix by this administration.
What kind of country are we living in where the authorities running our detention facilities are not permitting legally authorized inspections by members of the U.S. House of Representatives?
Seriously. In America. This sounds like a dystopian work of fiction, not the United States of America.
I will just close with a quote from Rep. Stanton: “When federal law enforcement ignores the law, every American should be concerned.”
Wake up.
