Facebook plans to locate a data center campus in the city’s Elliot Road technology corridor, according to Mesa District 6 Councilman Kevin Thompson.

“The long-anticipated announcement is now out. Project Huckleberry is indeed Facebook,” Thompson said in a Facebook post @ThompsonForMesa. “With a capital investment of over $800M, this newest Facebook data center facility will be 960,000 SF in the first phase, with additional phases coming soon. Once completed, there will be a roughly 100 employees on campus. Those are locally sourced, so great news for our community and region. Welcome to #Mesa, welcome to #D6, and welcome to our Elliot Road Technology Corridor.”

“Thank you to the Arizona Commerce Authority, the city of Mesa, Arizona Government, the Eastmark community, the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Salt River Project, and to all of our partners that have helped get us to today. We are excited to join the Mesa community and look forward to having a strong partnership for years to come,” according to a Facebook page dedicated to the facility, @FBMesaDataCenter.

“We are so excited to announce that Facebook is joining the Arizona community. We are breaking ground on our newest data center in Mesa. This facility will be an important part of the global infrastructure that brings Facebook apps and services to billions of people around the world. Once completed, the data center will represent an investment of more than $800 million and will support approximately 100 jobs,” it states.

The addition to Eastmark represents increased economic opportunities for residents, and increased tax revenues for Mesa and the state of Arizona. It also provides an opportunity for many to live, work and play in one  community avoiding lengthy commutes, according to a release from Brookfield Residential Arizona. Brookfield is the managing partner of Eastmark in a joint venture with DMB Associates.
