SAVE Act will thwart undocumented people from voting in federal elections

Sun City reader's response to Question of the Week

OPINION — A question was posed recently by the Independent about mail-in voting and whether it’s safe and secure. My opinion is that the short answer to this question is no.

As most will recall from viewing the nightly news, between 2020 and 2024 millions of illegal migrants walked over the border. I believe that many of these persons remain in our country illegally in predominately blue states and sanctuary cities because those places are the only ones friendly to them. In these places, without the SAVE Act, I believe non-citizens will be able to vote in national elections.

The SAVE Act must be enacted by Congress without delay. Those in opposition to the SAVE Act argue unconvincingly that such a law will “disenfranchise” female voters, comparing it to Jim Crow laws. My opinion is that such statements constitute utter nonsense.

All that is required to register to vote is a birth certificate, which is easily obtained at the place of birth. If naturalized, papers can easily be produced. In the case of a married person changing their name, a marriage license is easily obtained to show the original name.

History shows that the Democratic Party in the late 19th and early 20th century dominated Southern state governments and opposed many federal civil‑rights efforts, including voting rights for African Americans.

It is ironic that those responsible for the tsunami of illegal migrants entering the country between 2020 and 2024 (my opinion) now disparage the SAVE Act, which will assure that voting rights are reserved only for American citizens.

Anyone wondering about this should ask themselves why this is so.
