5-year-old killed in Tempe shooting, police search for suspects

Posted

A shooting just before midnight Friday in Tempe ended with a 5-year-old dead and two juveniles injured, and police said they are continuing a search for suspects.

Tempe officers responded to the area of West Broadway Road and South 52nd Street about 11:45 p.m. Friday, March 17, and found an occupant of one vehicle fired shots at another vehicle, causing multiple injuries.

Three juvenile victims were taken to local hospitals by Tempe Fire Medical Rescue, and the 5-year-old was ultimately pronounced dead. The injuries to the other victims are not considered life threatening, police said.

The victim vehicle contained one adult and six juveniles and was traveling eastbound on Broadway Road from 48th Street “when the suspect vehicle began shooting at the victims. The suspect vehicle immediately fled the scene prior to PD arrival.

“There are currently multiple outstanding subjects,” police said in a release.
