A lot more is involved with plane navigation than what the average eyes can see when aircraft is flying high in the sky as Western Maricopa Education Center students enrolled in aviation programs learn what it takes to get planes up and running.
They are doing what a “couple of brothers in their backyard” did to become pioneers of the aviation industry, said Alan Nobis, a part-time aviation instructor, at the West-MEC Glendale site. “It’s kind of a reminder of the history of this country.”
He noted how the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, tinkerered with an idea about the possibility of human flight, becoming the first true airplane pilots, through trial and error, to take flight in 1903 in a motor-powered airplane.
