Juggling jobs, feeding families and possibly working with limited funds in today’s economy is a life lesson Dysart Unified School District students learned in one day.
More than 250 Valley Vista High School students participated in an early morning interactive course Oct. 2, simulating life after high school for the Financial Fitness in Action class. Students in the economics class were faced with surprise, real-life situations including such things like traffic tickets, emergency hospital visits and more.
Based on the career chosen, students are given notes on pieces of paper to show a glimpse of their future lives working with the salaries, pay rates and credit score assigned. The students make decisions that affect their finances, such as renting an apartment on their own, buying a house, having a roommate or a spouse, buying or leasing a vehicle, purchasing phones and/or cable and possibly saving for their retirement.
