Tohono O’odham Nation aids Surprise fire department operations

Grants will buy mechanics their own tools, parts on hand

Mechanics for the Surprise Fire-Medical Department sometimes use their own tools to work on the department’s vehicles.

Making matters worse, they must drive nearly five miles to the central fleet yard to pick up parts such as washers, nuts and bolts when those need restocking.

The department said this procedure creates operational delays and slows the fire and EMS apparatus returning to service.
