OPINION — As I read Nikki Colletti’s letter, I was struck by her tone concerning our perpetually absent representative and what a “breath of fresh air” he is for Congressional District 8. I wouldn’t know about this fresh air because I have never seen him be accessible.
As for H.R. 7008, for which Ms. Colletti praises Abe Hamadeh profusely, a closer look is necessary. Opposition was high because the Republicans attached a “poison pill” provision that would severely restrict voting rights and mail-in ballots.
This provision was completely unrelated to insider trading and noxiously anti-democratic. Meanwhile, we have the president happily trading on inside information he actually creates, usually involving oil markets and crypto. Does Hamadeh thinks that’s all above board? In reality, it is as illegal when the president does it as when members of Congress do it.
