Surprise resort residents help get food to hungry families

Sunflower makes 138,000 meals, donates money to food bank

About 500 volunteers worked in shifts to package rice and bean meals when Sunflower Resort in Surprise held its 11th annual Food for Kidz event on Feb. 21.

The packaged food was donated to the Valley View Community Food Bank and the resort donated more than $15,000 in cash.

“The food we receive from Sunflower every year really helps us get through the summer when donations are reduced because the snowbirds have departed,” said Jesse Ramirez, president and founder of the food bank.
