Surprise P&Z sticks with 100 feet setbacks for BESS

Commission recommends same distance to council

Surprise planning and zoning commissioners are still in favor of 100-foot setbacks for Battery Energy Storage Systems, or BESS.

The commission voted 5-0 on Aug. 6 to reaffirm its preference for that distance of space between an existing residential dwelling and the edge of a BESS.

The city council plans to host a similar public meeting on the matter at its next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
