Surprise mayor’s reception starts spring training season

Rangers, Royals, Sartor kick off year at Surprise Stadium

Surprise Mayor Kevin Sartor kicked off the spring training season with representatives from the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers to pitch this year’s winning partnership.

The 23rd annual Mayor’s Spring Training Welcome Back Reception was a happy hour-themed event on Feb. 19 at Surprise Stadium, 15850 N. Bullard Ave. Guests got a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, hors d’oeuvres provided by Barrio Queen, a swag bag with memorabilia and commemorative spring training booklets.

Tony Riggsbee, noted as the “Voice of Surprise Stadium,” was the master of ceremonies. He introduced the mayor and speakers from the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers. They all welcomed fans to the 2025 spring training season, which begins full swing on Feb. 22.
