Surprise growth is 3rd fastest in West Valley

City outpacing state rise as population estimated at 173,000

Surprise now has nearly 173,000 residents, according to the latest estimates from the Arizona Commerce Authority.

Surprise isn’t the top growing city in the West Valley anymore — but it’s still far outpacing the state’s still rising rate.

New estimates from the Arizona Commerce Authority show that as of July 1 Surprise grew by 4.2% this year, just behind Buckeye (5.3%) and Goodyear (5%).

Surprise’s rate is still more than three times the state’s growth rate of 1.3%
