The city has released an overview of fireworks laws within its limits as Americans begin to celebrate Independence Day.

Fireworks still cannot be used between 11 p.m. to 8 a.m., except Friday, July 4, when use is allowed between 11 p.m. through 1 a.m. Saturday, July 5.

State law calls for fireworks sales to end Sunday, July 6.

Fireworks are permitted on private property within the city limits with the property owner’s consent, but they are still illegal to use anywhere on public property, including streets, sidewalks and parks.

Residents in HOA communities should check the restrictions regarding the use of fireworks in driveways and yards in their neighborhoods.

The city said the Surprise Fire-Medical Department may grant permits for the public display of fireworks upon application of a temporary use permit and proper inspection. Permits may be revoked during times of high fire danger warnings.

The minimum age for purchasing consumer fireworks is 16.
