Surprise cyclist fights ALS with his feet once again

Surprise resident Bob Higgins recently made his 11th consecutive bicycle ride on the East Coast to raise awareness and donations for research for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

However, a bad rain storm cut short the 23rd annual Tri-State Trek, a 200-mile, two-day bicycle excursion through Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine on June 21 and 22.

About 75 riders risked the weather on the second day to finish the ride, but Higgins, 73, played it safe with the conditions questionable.

Higgins is a semi-retired commercial real estate attorney and an avid amateur cyclist who lives in The Grand.

As of late June, Higgins had raised nearly $27,000 on his Tri-State Trek bio page, which was near his goal.
