An increase in revenue for the recent spring training season has resulted in the city of Surprise cutting a bigger check to its two tenants.
The city council approved a budget amendment last month to reimburse $400,000 to the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals, based on a contract between the city and the two teams.
The Sports and Tourism Department annually pays the teams a percentage of revenues generated, but the figures came in higher than what was budgeted for fiscal year 2025.
