State awards Surprise Police grant to upgrade 911 system

The Surprise Police Department received a financial boost to adopt and operate a new 911 system that is expected to make emergency services faster, more reliable and more effective.

The Arizona Department of Administration awarded the department a $179,952 grant to update its network hardware and software and for monthly recurring costs and maintenance to stay in line with the upgraded 911 system.

Next Generation 911 system is an IP-based system designed to replace the mostly analog 911 infrastructure the department currently uses.
