City Center strip shut down for baseball, music festival

Posted

Bullard Avenue will be closed between Paradise and Tierra Buena lanes 24 hours a day from Feb. 14 through March 23 for the safety of those attending Surprise events near the Surprise Recreation Campus.

Upcoming events include the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic, spring training baseball and the Out of the Park Music Festival.

The south Surprise Regional Library parking lot will also be closed during this time. The north parking lot will remain open.

These closures may affect traditional routes but will not limit access to the library, Surprise City Court, the Tennis and Racquet Complex, Aquatic Center, Surprise Community Park and dog park and City Hall.

From Bell Road heading south on Bullard, traffic will be detoured east on Paradise, around the curve to travel west on Tierra Buena.

From Greenway Road heading north on Bullard, traffic will be detoured east on Tierra Buena, around the curve to travel west on Paradise.

The Surprise Stadium parking lot is limited to access from Paradise to Buck O’Neil Way.

Even with this closure in place, the city would like to remind drivers to slow down, pay attention to the road and be mindful of pedestrians so the community can enjoy these events safely.

Surprise Stadium will host the annual College Baseball Classic Feb. 14 through 17, featuring Oregon State, Indiana, UNLV and Xavier. Find details at SurpriseStadium.com.

February 21 is opening day for the Cactus League season when the Texas Rangers face off against the Kansas City Royals at 1:05 p.m. This season will be packed with 30 games, featuring six night games and nine weekend thrillers. Get tickets at SurpriseStadium.com.

Surprise will also host the second Out of the Park Music Fest from 2 to10 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 at Mark Coronado Park next to Surprise Stadium to close out the Spring Training season.

Nashville’s rising star, Ernest, is headlining the festival with big-name country stars Chase Matthew, George Birge, Louie TheSinger and Lauren Watkins.
