The Surprise Police Department must comply with nationally established CALEA standards to achieve and maintain accredited status. It achieved its sixth accreditation in November.

The department has voluntarily participated in the CALEA accreditation process since 2007 as part of maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and providing the community with police services.

“The Surprise Police Department values resident input on our service and performance,” a city official wrote in a news release.

Public responses may be anonymous and are received directly by CALEA, with a report summarizing those responses to the Surprise Police Department at the conclusion of the comment period.
