Mobile food pantry to return to Surprise church this week

A mobile pantry will make a stop and bring much-needed food items to assist individuals and families from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at CCV Surprise, 14787 W. Cholla St.
Phoenix Rescue Mission hosts monthly mobile pantries all over that provide households with a range of “shelf-stable pantry staples,” according to a news release.
Based on availability, families in need will receive peanut butter, canned vegetables, canned proteins, soups, sauces, pasta, rice, beans, and other nonperishable food items. This effort helps reach neighbors who may experience “food insecurity or need additional food assistance,” the release stated.

With more than 2,600 household visits, serving over 8,000 individuals across various locations over the last year, the program has provided food assistance during times of need.
According to a new study, Arizona leads the nation in dropped SNAP benefit enrollment, a decrease by 48% since last July, putting more pressure on local food banks as the cost of groceries continues to rise.
