Mexican music will dominate the night at the upcoming Surprise Fiesta Grande.

South Phoenix Tejano group Louis S. & the Band are headlining the city’s annual party that happens toward the end of Hispanic Heritage Month on Saturday, Oct. 11.

The free event is scheduled for 5 to 10 p.m. at Mark Coronado Park, 15960 N. Bullard Ave.

The Reminisce Band, a six-piece cover band based out of Phoenix, will also perform, as will a 14-year-old accordionist from Mesa named Elijah Ezequiel, who goes by the nickname The Arizona Squeezbox Kid.

Beside music, the festival will feature authentic Mexican food and cultural activities such as folklórico dancing, a car show, Lucha Libre wrestling, piñata busts, a petting zoo and inflatables.

The evening starts with a Tejano-style DJ and Mariachi Chapala, which has been playing traditional mariachi music in the Valley for more than 30 years.

At 5:30 p.m, Ballet Folklorico Estrellas Del Valle will take to the main stage.

Mayor Kevin Sartor plans to welcome the crowd at 6:30 p.m.

Ezequiel Y Los Conjunto Addictz are on stage for an hour, starting at 6:45 p.m.

Entertainment on the main stage will finish with The Reminisce Band (7:45 p.m.) and Louie S & The Band (8:45 p.m.).

Louie Sanchez has performed with various Valley bands since he was 14 and was the bassist for regional Mexican artist Luis Coronel for a time. He has released two current singles: “Amigos Nada Mas” and “Te Me Fuiste.”

Seven separate piñata busts for the kids are scheduled between 6 and 9 p.m. There are also four Lucha Libre shows on the docket at the top of the hour between 6 and 9.

Admission is free, but the city will accept canned food donations benefitting Valley View Community Food Bank at the entry gate.

The entry will have metal detectors, and bags will be checked when entering.
