Letters: Former Surprise mayor says school measures are smart investments for city

As the former mayor of Surprise, I’ve always believed in thoughtful, responsible planning to support our city’s growth. That’s why I’m encouraging residents to vote “yes” on both the bond and override for the Dysart Unified School District.

These measures are practical, forward-thinking and fiscally sound. They maintain the current tax rate (no increase), while giving our schools the tools they need to succeed. That includes improving safety and security, upgrading aging buildings, providing reliable transportation and maintaining programs that support all students.

Great schools are the cornerstone of a great city. They help attract businesses, boost home values and create a sense of community pride. Dysart is a vital partner in our city’s success and one of our largest employers.

These aren’t just educational investments, they’re community investments. They benefit every resident, whether or not you have a child in school.

Let’s continue to build a city we’re proud of: safe, strong and full of opportunity. Join me in voting “yes” on both the bond and the override.

Skip Hall served as Surprise mayor from 2019 to 2024.
