Grant program helps boost Surprise community

Council helps fund events, programs for 23 nonprofits

The Surprise Community Outreach and Neighborhood Grant programs were created a decade ago to help nonprofits and other organizations promote programs and events that benefit the whole city.

City officials say it appears to be working.

Thanks to the help with city grant money, more than 35,600 people were served last year through the programs and events of 23 local nonprofits. It included money to help put on the city’s Founders Day celebration in the Original Townsite, host afterschool programs at the Surprise Resource Center or even distribute feminine hygiene kits.
