Valley Vista High School on Feb. 4 hosted its selection for the spring cohort of the “Invest in Girls — Exploring Finance” program, a national initiative brought to Arizona by the Arizona Council on Economic Education.
This transformative after-school program aims to inspire young women to pursue careers in finance, addressing the significant underrepresentation of women in the industry.
The program will engage 29 female students from 10th to 12th grade, led by Aimee Jensen the school coordinator.
“This program isn’t just about teaching financial literacy,” Jensen said. “It’s about showing young women that they belong in spaces where they’ve traditionally been underrepresented. By giving them the skills, confidence, and professional support they need, we’re opening doors to a future where they lead with impact.”
Participants will benefit from financial literacy training, career workshops presented by successful women in finance, and mentorship opportunities. In a groundbreaking partnership, Dress for Success Phoenix will provide essential professional development skills, including guidance on professional attire and communication. Each student will receive a complete professional outfit, preparing them for future career opportunities.
Key Program Highlights:
• Financial literacy training and career exploration
• Workshops led by successful women in finance
• Mentorship opportunities
• Professional development skills from Dress for Success Phoenix
• Complimentary professional attire for each participant
This initiative reflects Valley Vista High School’s commitment to fostering leadership and success for all students, particularly in industries with persistent gender gaps. The program will empower young women of color, providing them with the tools, knowledge and confidence to excel in finance careers.
The Arizona Council on Economic Education, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing economic and financial literacy, continues to prepare students for lifelong success in an increasingly complex economy through innovative programs like Invest in Girls.
