The Alert Surprise system allows for one-way direct communication from the city to subscribers in potentially life-threatening situations.
Subscribers can choose to add address information to receive targeted emergency alerts based on locations they choose, such as home, work or school.
To register, follow the instructions at surpriseaz.gov/AlertSurprise, or download the Smart911 app in the Google Play or Apple App Store to create a personalized safety profile.
A Smart911 profile can include details such as medical conditions, household information, pets and property details. The information is only available to 911 dispatchers and responders.
Once registered, users can customize how they receive alerts, manage multiple addresses and ensure their information is up to date.
To sign up to receive only text alerts, opt-in by texting the word Surprise to 67283. However, signups at surpriseaz.gov/AlertSurprise will give users more notification options and account preferences.
