Federal money helps defray some WeRIDE costs in Surprise

Even though Surprise is ending its WeRIDE microtransit pilot program at the end of the month, the city is still getting a little bit of money back for its efforts.

The Federal Transit Administration recently awarded Surprise $114,432 to help offset expenses for the current fiscal year, which ends June 30, the last day of WeRIDE service in the city.

Surprise officials have estimated this fiscal year’s expenses to run the program were around $920,000. When adding in a full fiscal year 2024 and three months of fiscal year 2023, Surprise spent a little over $2 million to run the pilot program.
