The city of Surprise will mark its fifth year as a member of the Dementia-Friendly America network of communities on Oct. 22 by hosting a trio of free in-person dementia friends information sessions in partnership with Dementia Friends Arizona and Banner Sun Health Research Institute.
There are three one-hour sessions to choose from, including one for Spanish speakers.
The sessions are 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. (Spanish) and 11 a.m. to noon on Oct. 4 at the Surprise Regional Library, 16089 N. Bullard Ave. and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 28 at the Surprise Senior Center, 15832 N. Hollyhock St.
Each session provides attendees with the opportunity to learn more about dementia — what it is, what it’s like to live with it, the most common types and tips for communicating with people with dementia.
Registration is limited to the first 50 participants.
