WHAM Art Center has another juried exhibition to start the new year.
“All Things Clay” will be on display at 16560 N. Dysart Road from Saturday, Jan. 3 through Friday, Jan. 30.
An artist reception has been scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10.
The exhibition will showcase the work of some of the West Valley’s most knowledgeable and accomplished clay artists, offering the community an opportunity to experience the skill, creativity and dedication of local artisans.
The featured artists include the following:
• Kay Attarzadeh has been working with clay off and on for 45 years, finding her studio a safe, happy space where she experiments with unique forms and custom glazes. Known for her elegant narrow-neck bottles, Kay’s work is marked by subtle variations and intricate detail, made possible through slow cooling in one of the West Valley’s few gas kilns.
• Netti Zielinski-Cannon, a wheel thrower since 2009, specializes in large-scale pieces, from 25-pound vessels to ambitious 24-inch slab-rolled forms. Her work reflects determination and a passion for pushing boundaries, inspiring both emerging and experienced artists in the community.
• Mike “Doc” Farabee brings 28 years of clay experience and a background in silversmithing to his functional art. He is known for his “holey” bowls, mugs, teapots and ceramic Christmas trees, blending symmetry with creativity and exemplifying the joy of creating within a collaborative artistic environment.
• Charlotte Fishburn discovered clay in 2012 and quickly developed a profound connection to the medium through dedicated practice and workshops in figurative sculpture. Her organic, spontaneous works include small figures and a series of standalone children, reflecting both playful experimentation and her deep engagement with WHAM’s creative community.
• Anne Rasmussen, working with clay since 1993, draws inspiration from nature and Asian landscape painting. Her functional forms honor classical techniques while offering a contemporary artistic perspective, creating pieces meant to evoke smiles, memories and thoughtful reflection.
• Jeff Heeg has been a professional ceramic artist for over 30 years, producing work that blurs the line between art and craft. His newest body of work promises to surprise and engage audiences, while his time at WHAM allows him to mentor others, sharing decades of accumulated knowledge and experience.
“All Things Clay” is designed as a celebration of the West Valley’s exceptional ceramic talent. Visitors will have the chance to meet the artists, explore their creative processes and witness the depth of expertise available in the West Valley.
