Garrett Scott Headrick is facing an indictment for the attempted murder of his ex-wife in Surprise.
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced the indictment of Headrick this week.
Authorities said Headrick traveled from California on Oct. 19 to ambush the victim and her kids while they were leaving their home.
"The defendant dragged the victim by the hair into the house, where he repeatedly slapped, strangled, and attempted to stab her all in front of the children," the Maricopa County Attorneys Office said in a news release.
After entering the home, Surprise police officers fired non-lethal rounds at Headrick to stop the attack.
On Oct. 25, a grand jury indicted Headrick on the following charges:
One count of attempt to commit second-degree murder, a Class 2 dangerous felony
Four counts of kidnapping, a Class 2 felony
Three counts of aggravated assault, a Class 3 dangerous felony, and
One count of disorderly conduct, a Class 1 misdemeanor.
Headrick is currently held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
