Members of the AZ Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion and the Shadow Ridge High School marching band were among those in attendance for the grand opening of Surprise's second and newest Home Depot.

City and company officials held a “board-cutting” ceremony for the store, which is now open at 16601 W. Cactus Road.

Store General Manager Eric Gomez led the official cutting of the wood, which took the place of a traditional ribbon cutting.

Surprise Mayor Kevin Sartor and City Councilmember Patrick Duffy lent hands during the cutting.

Home Depot’s Western Division president, regional vice president and district manager were on hand for the opening.

Todd Byard, the vice president of operations for the nonprofit HandsOn Greater Phoenix, also accepted a $5,000 check from Home Depot at the ceremony.

The nearly 110,000-square-foot warehouse will eventually be anchored by an EoS Fitness and a Fry’s grocery store in the Sycamore Farms neighborhood of Prasada.

Surprise has another Home Depot location at  13760 W. Bell Road.
