Planting project delayed due to heat

Posted

The planting project for the Sun City West PRIDES volunteers was put on hold due to hot weather.

But Moon Valley Nurseries was finally given the go ahead to begin work on the landscaping on R.H. Johnson Boulevard from Bell Road to 128th Avenue.

According to Bruce Kilbride, the Moon Valley team started the work at 6 a.m. The project included planting and installing mulch for 91 plants in 105 total minutes, which broke down to one plant every 70 seconds. PRIDES members followed behind, raking gravel, fixing berms and adjusting bubblers, which took much longer.

Many of the plants are small, so right now residents may have to look hard to see the difference, but if they give them a few months and they will appreciate the array of colors and variety, according to PRIDES officials.

The final two sections were planted the following weekend.
