Members from the Sun City Agua Fria National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter donated cases of water to the Catholic Charities MANA House located in Phoenix, to be given to homeless veterans. The water was delivered by the Chapter Chaplain Patricia Alicki and her husband, Richard.
In 2008, a group of 14 homeless veterans got together to help each other, which the Catholic Charities MANA (Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force) House continues to do today. They offer services to homeless veterans and provide each veteran an opportunity to reclaim a life of self-sufficiency. It is a peer-supported organization of homeless and formerly homeless veterans.
The following services are provided thanks to the community agencies and other organization assistance:
· Career counseling, job search, resume development, job placement and job interview readiness in the Veterans Resource Center
· Enrollment assistance at Veteran Administration (VA) hospital, social security and Department of Economic Security (DES)
· Open VA claims and benefits upgrades
· DD-214 and discharge upgrades
· Assistance for educational programs including GED, vocational, college and university
· Assistance with finding permanent and affordable housing
· Volunteer job opportunities with MANA House and at MANA outreach programs
· Public transportation passes
· Transportation provided to and from the VA hospital
· Computer access for job searches, resume creation and email
· Full kitchen and dining room
· Laundry and showers
· Referrals to programs on the Human Services Campus
· Hygiene kits and emergency clothing assistance
· Local and long-distance phone service
· Metro Light Rail and public bus passes
· Fresh coffee and cold water
