Benevilla, a nonprofit dedicated to caring for the needs of older adults, caregivers and families, is issuing an urgent call for summer volunteers to help support and sustain a variety of critical programs and services vital to the local community.
The summer season is a pivotal time for Benevilla as it ramps up efforts to provide free essential home services. These include assisted transportation, grocery shopping, phone pals, light home maintenance services, emergency errands and business assistance. However, the increased demand for these services, coupled with a traditional decline in volunteer availability as snowbirds leave during the summer, has created a pressing need for additional support.
“Our community relies on the generosity and dedication of volunteers, especially during the summer months when many older adults face heightened challenges,” said Joanne Byers, Benevilla president and CEO. “We are calling on our community members to step up and make a meaningful impact by volunteering their time and skills to help us continue delivering these vital programs.”
According to AARP, the vast majority (87 percent) of those 65 and older want to remain in their home as they grow older. As more Baby Boomers age into retirement, the need for help to “age in place” successfully is intensifying. With the aid of vetted volunteers, Benevilla offers these free home services helping older adults stay independent and remain in their homes longer.
Volunteers ages 18 and older are encouraged to join Benevilla in making a difference this summer. Whether one can commit a few hours a week or more, their contribution will have a lasting impact on the lives of those in the community.
Benevilla also provides a range of additional free services through other programs. These services include connecting older adults and caregivers to critical community resources, support groups, caregiver training, educational events and more.
