The American Association of University Women Northwest Valley installed new officers during a luncheon at Angela’s Kitchen in The Grand. More than 50 ladies were in attendance to witness the installation.
Elected officers were Rosemary Dougherty, president; Kate King, president-elect; Nancy Flann, recording secretary; Sharon Phleps, treasurer; Karen Bunting, corresponding secretary; Jeanie Pennington, vice-president of programs; and members Gail Reddington and Kathleen Gillespie. Appointed officers included Suzanne Lowe, public policy; Suzanne James, chair of hositality for the fashion show; Mary Carto, hospitality chair; Shelby Mewin and Gloria Fried, STEM; Tina Byrne, scholarships; and Ann Mitchell, college connections. Some appointments were made in absentia.
AAUW advances gender equity for women and girls through research and education. It is a national voice promoting equity and education for women and girls.
Since its founding in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of education and social and economic advocacy. Membership is open to anyone holding an associate’s, bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
