Griswold: Rescue plan does not help most in Sun City

Posted

The recently enacted “American Rescue Plan” does not provide help directly to Sun City, because we are unincorporated.

Funds are allocated to Maricopa County and surrounding cities based on population. Our Sun City Fire and Medical Department’s ability to raise revenue is very constrained and their budget is tight. They could use help for overtime pay because of COVID-19 sickness last year, added expense for protective supplies and expenses from their very high call volume. Station 133’s call volume was the highest in the state! We need to consider their workload and their safety, which translates into our safety.

Please contact our local representatives to ask them to target state and county funds to the fire department. Sen. Rick Gray, rgray@azleg.gov; Rep. Beverly Pingerelli, bpingerelli@azleg.gov; Rep. Kevin Payne, kpayne@azleg.gov; County Supervisor Clint Hickman, hickman@mail.maricopa.gov.
