Brandt: RCSC should reduce fees this year in Sun City

Posted

I moved here in April when almost one-third of the year was already gone, but had to pay the entire $496.

I had hoped to use the exercise equipment, as recommended by my doctor, but I have not been able to get one cent worth of use out of any of the facilities.

A person who wrote earlier engaged in semantics by saying that the fee is an assessment and not a user fee. What? Homeonwers paid the assessment in order to use the facilities. Another writer tried to suggest that a refund was not in order because there were people who live here on a part-time basis who do not get a refund. It was their choice to pay a fee for the full year but only live here part of the year. They are, clearly, in a financial situation that allows them to own two homes, so $496 may not be a big deal to them.

For some of us, handing over $500 and getting absolutely nothing in return is a significant financial loss. That amount of money could cover groceries, utilities, medication and other necessities. Homeowners should get a refund or next year’s fee should be prorated.
