World record pullup attempt May 26-27 in Phoenix

Mesa High School wrestling coach to attempt most in 24 Hours

Anthony Robles, Mesa High School wrestling coach, will attempt to break the Guinness World Records title for the number of pullups in a 24-hour period on Thursday, May 26. The current record is 7,715 pullups.

Robles is an NCAA national champion wrestler, author and motivational speaker, according to a release.

The world record attempt will be his first official act as spokesperson for Desert Financial Credit Union. Robles became the credit union’s spokesperson at the beginning of May 2022.

Robles is accepting flat donations or pledges per pullup to raise money for the Mesa High School wrestling program while attempting the record at the Desert Financial Credit Union headquarters, 148 N. 48th St. in Phoenix.

Throughout the day, Robles’s wife, mother, past coaches, training partners, current wrestling students and Desert Financial employees will take turns cheering on Robles as he competes for the world record, the release states.

Robles was born missing his right leg. He developed a passion for wrestling in high school and overcame great odds to become a two-time Arizona State Champion and high school National Champion. After college wrestling programs turned him away because of his size and missing leg, Robles walked on to the Arizona State University wrestling team. He finished college as a three-time All American and the 2011 NCAA National Champion. In 2012, Robles was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. He served as a member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition from 2013 to 2016.
