Woman dies in Saturday morning crash, impairment suspected: Phoenix PD

Phoenix police are investigating a collision early Saturday morning that left a woman dead and two others in the hospital.

The crash occurred about 1:20 a.m. Sept. 2 near 35th Avenue and South Mountain avenues.

When officers arrived, they found two vehicles and three injured people. A woman died at the scene, and the others were taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Detectives have taken over the investigation, and preliminary information suggests that the vehicle being driven by the victim was traveling northbound on 35th Avenue, when it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the other vehicle, which was southbound on 35th Avenue.

Impairment is believed to be a factor in the collision, officials said.

Police identified the victim as  20-year-old Aaliyah Renee Gil.
