A 21-year-old woman died Sunday after being shot in a gun battle outside a home near 35th Avenue and McDowell Road, police said.
A boy was injured during the incident that occurred about 2 a.m. March 30 during which “multiple individuals exchanged in gunfire, resulting in over 300 shell casing found throughout the area,” according to a Phoenix Police Department release. Homes and vehicles were struck by gunfire.
Officers arrived at the shooting scene where “a large group of people” were seen running and driving off from a house party. They found 21-year-old Amanda Franco on the ground with a gunshot wound. She died at the scene, police said.
Authorities later learned the boy was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Preliminary information indicates “the shooting stemmed from an altercation that occurred at the house party where it erupted outside, in front of the home,” the release stated.
Investigators processed the scene, spoke to witnesses and searched for video evidence. Detectives said they believe there are more people who may have captured video footage of the incident and ask them to call police or contact Silent Witness.
