A woman and a dog died Wednesday morning in a fire at a four-plex near University and McClintock drives, Tempe fire officials said.

Tempe Fire Medical Rescue and Mesa firefighters responded to a fire call about 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Crews found a fire in the bedroom of one of the units and were able to put it out quickly, officials said, adding the fire did not extend beyond the one bedroom.

During a search, crews found a woman, who had died in the fire along with her dog, firefighters said in a release.

There is smoke damage to other units in the building, but no other injuries were reported.

A team of fire investigators was determining the cause of the fire Wednesday.
