West Valley Symphony appoints executive director

Posted

The West Valley Symphony announced the promotion of Mona Myhre to executive director.

She will be responsible for all aspects of the organization and implementing policies set by the board of directors.

“Mona has been a key part of the West Valley Symphony’s administration for many years, and we are thrilled to promote her to this important position,” said Carter Marsden, President of the board of trustees for the West Valley Symphony.

Myhre joined the symphony as business manager in 2013 and since then she has assumed additional responsibilities to ensure the success of every concert season.

“Our goal is to grow our audience back to pre-pandemic numbers in the next year or two, and we are confident that Mona will be an important asset to help our organization reach its goals,” said Mr. Marsden.

As the only music dropout in her family, Myhre is uniquely suited to appreciate music as she loves it all – as long as there is no practice involved. Although she has gathered many college credits along the way, she never could quite decide what she wanted to be when she grew up.

She began her career at 3M in St. Paul, Minnesota, then married and raised their daughter. She returned to work as a senior subrogation analyst for Farmers Insurance for 12 years. When her husband retired in 1988, they wintered in Sun City West. When they became full-time residents in 1992, she spent 12 years as executive director of Chamber Music West. While at CMW, she served on the symphony board for a couple of years and then when the business manager retired, was hired to fill her very busy and varied position.

The West Valley Symphony was incorporated in 1968 as The Sun City Symphony Orchestra Association. Renamed The West Valley Symphony in 2004 to better represent the audience it serves, the orchestra continues to present symphonic music Sunday afternoons, November-March, at The Vista Center for the Arts, 15660 N. Parkview Place.
