Two ballot propositions shaping the way Arizona voters may choose primary election candidates will be up for discussion at 6 p.m. Sept. 26.
The debate, part of a series put on by the Arizona Clean Elections Commission, will discuss Propositions 133 and 140, which offer different ideas about what should happen with primary voting.
Proposition 133, referred to the ballot by the Republican-controlled Arizona Legislature, would require partisan primaries for partisan offices. Proposition 140, a citizen initiative, would create a system of "open primaries" where all candidates from all parties would appear on the same ballot for a vote. The number of candidates moving on from those primaries could be of the same political party.
The discussion features former Arizona Surpreme Court Justice Robert Gould and former Phoenix Mayor Paul Johnson
