Trooper stops 10-year-old driving on Loop 101, dad arrested: DPS

Posted

A 10-year-old boy led Arizona troopers on a three-mile pursuit at 70 mph Saturday afternoon along Loop 101, officials said.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety received a call about 3:40 p.m. Sept. 2 about a vehicle that was moving in and out of lanes near Scottsdale Road. The caller also said it was speeding and appeared to be driven by a 10-year-old.

A trooper tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield, starting a pursuit, according to a release.

The vehicle eventually stopped after traveling three miles at a top speed of 70 mph, and DPS confirmed the driver was 10 years old, authorities said.

He was released to his mother.

His father was in the passenger seat, according to DPS, and he was booked for child abuse, endangerment and aggravated DUI.
