Tempe spends $40K to expand Apache Boulevard heat relief center

Posted

The EnVision Center in Tempe is expanding to provide heat relief for the rest of the summer.

The center at 1310 E. Apache Blvd. has served more than 2,200 visitors so far, and the city is using $40,000 to open an unused portion of the building.

Open noon to 8 p.m., the facility provides a place to cool off, hydrate and obtain information about resources.

There are nine cooling centers available in Tempe: Cahill Senior Center, Pyle Adult Recreation Center, Escalante Community Center, Kiwanis Recreation Center, North Tempe and Westside multi-generational centers, Mountain Park Health Center and Salvation Army (on excessive heat warning days).

All will be open through Sept. 30.
