Tempe police traffic stop leads to high-speed East Valley pursuit

Law enforcement agencies were called into action early Sunday morning after Tempe police attempted to pull over a driver who rammed a patrol vehicle before fleeing.

The traffic stop occurred about 1:30 a.m. Sept. 3 in Tempe, but the suspect driver rammed a Tempe police sergeant’s vehicle and fled onto eastbound US 60 from McClintock Drive, police said.

The driver was speeding, according to authorities. and crashed near Lindsay Road.

The three people in the vehicle attempted to run away but were caught. Tempe police will be dealing with the criminal charges and the Arizona Department of Public Safety will handle the collision, according to a release.

Tempe police said Gang and Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission detectives and COAST detectives assisted.
