Tempe approves general business license for local businesses

Tempe City Council approved a plan to create a database for Tempe businesses during its July 1 meeting.

The change requires all Tempe businesses to register and pay a $25 administration fee. This fee is waived for nonprofits, religious institutions, businesses with existing regulatory licenses such as tobacco, and short-term rentals as well as veteran services.

Businesses that register before January 2026 will not have to pay the fee until Jan. 1, 2027.
