SUSD’s Dr. Menzel wins superintendent of the year

Scottsdale Unified School District Dr. Scott Menzel has been named superintendent of the year by Save Our Schools Arizona.

The organization, which champions public schools and their causes in the state, has bestowed the honor on Dr. Menzel for holding the standard of public education high in the face of “attacks” against it, said Save Our Schools Arizona spokesman Tyler Kowch.

“For us in particular, we felt Dr. Menzel’s work defending the school district and his school board over the last two years was quite commendable,” Kowch said. “From our point of view Scottsdale Unified School District has been kind of under attack for the last two years. This is what we’ve heard from numerous people in the district. He’s been kind of a leader at the top that they can rely on and trust. That really means a lot to them. Since he’s won the award we’ve heard from numerous people in the district; they were so appreciative that he was getting recognized.”
