Surprise announced five winners of the new Surprise Public Library System Library Card Design Contest.
The winners in each category are as follows: Jisella Longley (Mayor’s Choice), Jimmy Scott (City Librarian’s Choice), Dagny Tang (10 and Under), Afton Campbell (11 to 17) and Amanda Mikesh (18+).
The director of the Arts, Culture and Library Department awarded certificates to the selected artists at the May 16 Surprise City Council meeting.
The winning artwork will be featured on the new Surprise Public Library System library cards, which will be needed to check out materials beginning July 1.
At that time, patrons will be able to choose between seven card designs.
Current Maricopa County Library District cardholders can opt-in to city of Surprise library notifications and pre-register for a SPLS library card.
By creating an account now, patrons will simply have to show ID to pick up their preferred card from Asante, Hollyhock and Northwest/Surprise Regional libraries.
