The Superstition Community Food Bank recently announced the election of east Mesa residents Lynn Hanson as president and Helen Kimble as vice president of the board of directors.

Hanson, who formerly served as board secretary, started with the organization in client services and continues to be an afternoon shift volunteer, according to a release.

Hanson brings extensive experience in marketing, community service and fundraising to her new leadership position, much of it gained during her 42 years in Fargo, North Dakota.

“I’m excited about the expansion of our boundaries, our facility and our services,” Hanson said in the release. “We will continue to aggressively pursue grants and look for new opportunities to better serve our clients. I want to get the word out to everyone that we’re here to make sure people have food, not just for an emergency, but whenever they need it.”

Kimble has spent a lifetime in volunteer service with both national and regional nonprofits, the release states.

“What immediately caught my attention about the SCFB was the fact that 89 cents of every dollar goes directly to feeding the hungry,” Kimble said in the release. “I have never seen a nonprofit maintain such a low administrative cost… that’s impressive. And we plan to keep it that way. Our donors can be assured that their dollars are being used as efficiently and effectively as possible.”

Other Superstition Community Food Bank board members include Mike Stoddard, treasurer; Megas Croll, interim secretary; Robyn Barker, Randy Beringer, Sharon Allison-Brown, Reginald Garnett, Tom Hall, Gary Kloefkorn and Pat Palermini.
