Tempe officials said this week that residents who have asked for ways to recycle Styrofoam packaging material have an option.
Styrofoam packaging chunks, blocks and coolers will be accepted from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at the Household Products Collection Center, 1320 E. University Drive.
“Acceptable Styrofoam items are not bendable, firm to the touch and should produce white pellets when torn,” city officials said in a release.
“Plates, cups, trays, peanuts or spongey foam are not eligible for recycling.”
Styrofoam should not be placed in blue recycling bins as it can contaminate the bin, according to the city.
“Styrofoam recycling is something we have historically offered at Zero Waste Day events,” David Tavares, deputy municipal utilities director, said.
“We know how important expanded recycling options are to our residents.”
